Some children find it very hard to focus especially between the ages of 6 and 13. One of the fallouts of this is that the child tends to do poorly in school. This can bring down the self-confidence of the child. One of the most common causes of lack of concentration is distraction. It really isn’t their fault. They sit down, meaning well enough to finish their work and then something catches their fancy. It could be your dog walking in, a bird outside the window, the telephone or anything. Very few children have total concentration. One way to help your child is to make sure that they are in an environment that has minimal distractions. It can also help if you do your work in the same room so that you can constantly remind them to refocus.
For many parents this is just not possible. They just do not have the time to sit with their child hours on end. A good alternative is a tutoring center.
