Prepare your children for exams

Most school systems are exam based, and it is therefore important to help your child learn how to prepare for the tests that they will face. At the end of the day, results do matter. When children are selected for further studies results are compared. How many units you have achieved helps decide which course you get into and at which university. Yes, extra curricular activities do help in the all around development of a child, but an ability to do well in examinations is also important.

Sending your child to a tuition center could go a long way in helping them get ready where studies are concerned. A good tuition center has qualified teachers and provides holistic training. They give attention to every child’s unique needs. The teaching at a good tutoring center should be consistent and graded. Pinecone Learning Center, a tutoring center in San Jose has all these excellent qualities and has helped many children in San José. They are now planning to extend their expertise to the children in Los Gatos where they have opened their new learning center. It is located at 987 University Ave., #20, Los Gatos, CA 95032

Benefits of private tutoring

A one-to-one lesson is always more beneficial than a 1-to-15 or 1-to-20. A one- to-one lesson caters to an individual child’s needs and is changed and increased or decreased according to a child’s ability. There are many benefits to private tuition.

1. Students are more confident as a result of private tuition.

2. Students quite often are ahead of their peers as they understand faster with the individual attention given them.

3. Students understand their foundation skills better and this helps them do better in other subjects.

4. Work and study is regular and this routine helps them stay focused.

A good reading program in a tuition center helps overcome the various challenges in the use of the English language. Children need to know oral and written English as English is the most widely used medium of communication in the world. Students need to be able to compose in the English language. Children should also be taught how to comprehend the written language. Pinecone Learning Center, a tutoring center in San Jose has a great reading program which helps children in all these areas.

Make sure that your child learns the basics

A child is expected to understand the basics of Math and English before she/he leaves middle school. Many schools do not test the abilities of a child until a much later age, and so children who have not understood the basics find it very difficult to cope with studies later. Parents should keep an eye on the progress of their child and meet the teacher once in a while to find out how their child is doing in school. If you feel that your child needs help in Math or English, it is better to provide it now than try to rectify later.

Check out the reading program and math program that Pinecone Learning Center, a tutoring center in San Jose and now in Los Gatos have created to help children go through graded levels in both subjects until they understand the basics. The lessons are designed to cater to every child’s individual needs, and only when a child gets through one level will he or she be progressed to the next. This helps the tutor, the child and the parent to be aware of the progress being made.

Children from Pinecone Learning Center have done very well academically and Ms. Hobbs, the owner and tutor has been recognized as one of San Jose’s finest tutors. Tutoring is a good decision

Parents can quite often be the worst teachers. They may be teaching their child with the best of intentions but may not be doing it the right way and not consistently. When the child’s grades start falling, the parent gets all worked up and they end up trying even harder. It is a no-win situation, which turns out to be frustrating for both the parent and the child. The parent does not understand why the child is unable to understand something so simple and the child starts feeling less confident and makes more mistakes while trying to please the parent.

Enrolling your child in a tutoring center does not mean that you have failed in some parental duty. You are actually making a good decision in regard to your child since a tutoring service like Pinecone Learning Center ensures that the child understands the basics before moving on to higher levels. The advantages of a learning center are that they are consistent and have no pre-conceived expectations from your child. They evaluate the child and start at a level comfortable to the child. Another advantage is you have their studies covered and you can spend quality time with your child.

Pinecone has an excellent Math Program and a Reading program, which have been created after a lot of research and study in teaching methods and order of difficulty that the child will be faced with as they progress from one grade to the next. The programs are both based on K-12 standards. Visit their website at www.pineconelearning.com or call (408) 270-4548 for more details.

What is your child’s mood today?

Every day is a new beginning, especially for a child. As they grow from day to day, every small change reflects in other aspects of their life. If a child has a good day at school, then it is a cheerful child that comes home. If a child has had a bad day at school, it could be a moody and grumpy child that comes home. The child’s study habits will also reflect the day they are having. A friend moving away to a new school, a new teacher, new classmates, any small thing can change the mental and emotional aspects in a child’s life.

Even life at home will reflect on a child’s academics. If it is a peaceful day in the house, the child goes about his/her work happily. If there is some disturbance in the home atmosphere, it reflects on the child too. A tutoring center where the ambiance is constant everyday may help a child, especially one who is sensitive to changes. The consistency of a learning center and instructor, help the child focus on the work at hand. Pinecone Learning Center is a tutoring center in San Jose which is well known for its English Program and Math program.

This learning center offers free placement testing and orientation. You can call

(408) 270-4548 to make an appointment! Allow about 30 minutes for the meeting including registration if you wish to start immediately. While you preview the program, your child will take a simple "test" to determine an appropriate starting point. The learning center will soon be starting a Reading Program for Students with Specific Language Disability. The Kase for Saterday School

The Wall Street Journal ran an article on March 20th entitled “The Kase for Saterday School”. The headline stated: “Kids in China already attend school 41 days a year more than students in the U.S. Now, schools across the country are cutting back to four-day weeks.” It went on to say that schools in China receive 30% more hours of instruction, Singapore classes operate 40 weeks a year, and Saturday classes are the norm in Korea and other Asian countries.

Charter schools in the U.S. such as KIPP (Knowledge is Power Program which has 80 schools around the country) understand the vital importance of extended instruction time. Middle-schoolers receive 60% more instruction time than public schools including 8-10 hour days, Saturday morning classes and abbreviated summer breaks.

The Kaiser Family Foundation recently reported that American youngsters spend an average of 7.5 hours per day using entertainment media which translates to 53 hours a week versus 30 hours in school.

Getting back the competitive edge

Adding hours or days to the school year might make an improvement, but there is also the problem of the typical school day in America. There is an enormous amount of time spent in a typical American school day on gym, recess, lunch, assembly, changing classes, homeroom, lining up for the art room, looking at movies, writing down homework assignments, quieting the classroom, celebrating holidays, preparing for plays, student drives, and on and on. Although these activities can be productive and meaningful in their own right, they don’t do much to enhance test scores, prepare a student for high school or provide the vital minutes that students need for practice to master concepts.

The Journal states that “Nearly every young American needs to learn more than most are learning today, both for the sake of their own prospects and on behalf of the nation’s competitiveness in a shrinking, dog-eat-dog world.” The nation’s competitiveness is not fairing well with recent international test scores which show about 90% of our states receiving D’s or F’s on the international scale. Until the government, the local districts, the teachers unions and the American families can agree to needed revisions in the length, number and content of elementary school days, families will need to provide their own resources for the added practice time and learning time for their students.
